A great site for a list of what to remove,  to plant instead, see Steve Woodhall's butterfly pictures and a communities enthusiasm for their backyard!

Litsea glutinosa,Indian Laurel, Indiese lourier or ukwatapheya-mbumbulu

Crispin Hemson in seek and destroy mode

We have posted an additional picture to show how great a problem Litsea is as an invasive.  Very little else can compete.  It is best to remove Litsea before it sets seed and becomes a food source for birds and spreads far and wide. Litsea glutinosa (commonly known as the Indian Laurel, Indiese lourier or ukwatapheya-mbumbulu), is self seeding in huge numbers in warmer sections of KZN.

eThekwini herbicide assistance and workshop 23 June 2011 at CROW

Friends of Pigeon Valley recently benefited by attending an Invasive Alien Plant workshop, arranged for Conservancies (or those who conserve), by eThekwini's Biodiversity Planning, Environmental Planning and Climate Protection Department. Ecogaurd who supply herbicide, demonstrated the use and application of Plenum.  Groups left with an amazing 'goodie bag' of supplies which we imagine will last us well in to the coming months. Honourable chairman Crispin Hemson and able helpers Andile Mkhize and Lunga Maphumulo demonstrated the use of the Tree Popper device in a Litsea glutinosa 'forest' during the lunch break.
